BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s golf team moved up one more spot Wednesday to second, when the latest Golf Digest/National Golf Coaches Associations women’s college golf poll was released.
LSU received two of the 24 first place votes and 541 points to move from third to second, while defending national champion UCLA remained in first, getting 22 first place votes and 597 points. Alabama moved from fourth to third (521 points) while North Carolina is now fourth from fifth (503).
Three teams in spots 5-7 made big moves as Auburn moved from 16th to 5th (483), Oklahoma State from 19th to 6th (407) and Vanderbilt from 15th to 7th (407). No. 2 USC dropped to eighth and Arizona State and Florida round out the top 10.
LSU has completed its fall season with two team wins and an individual victory for defending NCAA champion Austin Ernst. LSU won the College of Charleston Cougar Classic and the Tar Heel Invitational.
Other SEC teams ranked in the top 25 include Georgia at No. 13, future member Texas A&M at 15, Tennessee at 23 and Kentucky making the rankings at 25.
LSU’s spring season begins in February and features the annual home event at the University Club in Baton Rouge, March 9-11.
