BATON ROUGE — With exhibition play a week away, first-year LSU women’s basketball head coach Nikki Caldwell will make a special appearance and address the crowd at “Live After Five” in downtown Baton Rouge on Friday.
Caldwell will take the stage at approximately 6:20 p.m. The weekly fall event, put together by the Downtown Business Association, features live bands on stage and encourages people to journey into and enjoy downtown Baton Rouge. The city’s premier live music event gets underway at 5 p.m. and is free of charge.
“Live After Five” has been moved to the front of the Baton Rouge River Center this week on River Road.
Posters featuring the 2011-12 Lady Tigers and Caldwell will be available at “Live After Five” as well as Lady Tiger Elite pamphlets for fans interested in joining the women’s basketball program’s official booster club. For more information, visit www.liveafterfiveonline.com.
Caldwell was hired as the head coach of the Lady Tigers last April after a stellar three seasons at UCLA where she compiled a 72-26 record and led the Bruins to two NCAA Tournament appearances. The Lady Tigers, ranked 24th in a Sporting News preseason poll, return five seniors and will feature an exciting up-tempo style of play. Senior forward LaSondra Barrett was named a preseason first-team All-SEC selection on Tuesday.
LSU hosts Xavier-New Orleans in an exhibition game on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Center. The Lady Tigers then travel to Wichita State for the season-opener on Nov. 14 before returning home to face Georgetown on Nov. 16.
