BATON ROUGE — Junior swimmer Sara Haley was named SEC Female Swimmer of the Week and freshman diver Alex Bettridge was named SEC Female Freshman of the Week after the duo contributed to LSU’s 193-98 victory over Tulane.
Haley won a pair of individual events and aided LSU to first-place finishes in two relays to earn SEC Female Swimmer of the Week honors. She won the 200 butterfly in 1:59.51 and earned gold in the 500 freestyle (4:59.00). Haley, LSU’s record holder in the 200 fly, swam the front leg of the 400 free relay and the back of the 200 medley relay, earning 40 points for the Tigers against Tulane.
As a bronze medalist in the 200 fly a the SEC Championships last season with a time of 1:56.82 and as a 2011 NCAA Qualifier, Haley will be leaned upon heavily in individual and relay competitions.
In her first collegiate meet, Bettridge notched the sixth highest 3-meter dive score (318.00) in program history. Her six dive score qualifies her for Zone Regionals. As one of the top incoming freshman in the program, Bettridge will continue to improve and looks to score at both the SEC and NCAA Championships.
The Tigers will travel to Tallahassee on Friday to take on Florida State at 2 p.m. (CT). The following day, the Tigers will take on the University of Florida at 12 p.m. (CT)
