BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes hosted its annual Major Decisions Symposium Monday at the Maravich Center. The event aims to better prepare sophomore student-athletes for their academic futures.
The symposium kicked off with a short introduction by Kenneth Miles, the ACSA’s Executive Director. He stressed the importance of choices in college and compared college students’ lives to books. Miles encouraged the student-athletes to be the writer of their own book.
The student-athletes were able to meet and interact with members of LSU’s senior colleges and career services, depending on which area of interest from the student-athletes. Every college supplied handouts in addition to a description of their college and degree path.
Desiree Elliott, a 2011 All-SEC Preseason pick and 2010 SEC Volleyball Freshman of the Year recipient, enjoyed asking questions and learning more about her major.
“The symposium was extremely helpful,” Elliott said. “I realize how important it is to be on track with classes. I now know the required GPA’s to get into the colleges, and the core classes I need in order to apply for those colleges.”
