BATON ROUGE – LSU women’s tennis players Hayley Everett and Paige Bahnsen each scored singles victories on day two of the Stephen F. Austin Fall Invitational Friday in Nacogdoches, Texas on Saturday.
Everett defeated Gabbi Fernandez of TCU in straight sets for her second singles win of the season.
Bahnsen won a hard fought third set 10-8 to score her first career singles victory in just her second tournament.
“I’m happy with the performance today especially considering we had to bounce back from a tough first day,” Jackson said. “It’s a step in the right direction but we still need to put a lot of work in as we look forward to the rest of our season.”
Senior Olivia Howlett and junior Kaitlin Burns fell in their singles matches in pre-qualifying at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Saturday.
“Today was a tough day where our girls both faced very talented opponents,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We look to take the experience gained today to improve for the future.”
Senior Whitney Wolf, the No. 52 ranked player in the initial 2011 ITA rankings, begins qualifying play in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday. She will also play doubles with Burns.
The two formed a doubles partnership that won five matches a year ago, all on court one. Two of those wins came against nationally ranked opponents.
