BATON ROUGE – Senior Taryne Boudreau was not the only LSU Tiger honored for her effort in an SEC sweep of Georgia and Tennessee this past week as fellow senior and Canadian international Allysha Chapman was selected Tuesday as a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week.
This actually marks the second time in her career that Chapman has been named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week after first being selected on Sept. 14, 2010, during her junior season.
Chapman’s selection comes just one day after Boudreau was honored by the Southeastern Conference on Monday as the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row.
Chapman was a leader of LSU’s defensive effort that limited two potent attacks in Georgia and Tennessee to a combined 17 total shots and seven shots on goal in a 2-0 shutout of the 10th-ranked Lady Volunteers on Friday night and a 2-1 win over the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon at the LSU Soccer Stadium.
Chapman helped hold Tennessee’s Alexis Owens, the reigning SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, off the scoresheet without a statistic in in Friday’s victory after she had scored a hat trick in a 4-2 victory over No. 6-ranked Florida in their previous match on Sept. 25. Chapman followed that performance by helping LSU hold Georgia’s Alexa Newfield without a shot or shot on goal in Sunday’s win. Newfield entered the match as the No. 1 scorer in the SEC this season with nine goals and 23 points on the campaign.
With a weekend sweep of Georgia and Tennessee, the Tigers are now alone atop the SEC standings on 12 points after posting a 9-3-1 overall record and perfect 4-0 mark in SEC play to this point of the season.
A native of Courtice, Ontario, Canada, Chapman’s second career selection as a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week is the fourth for the LSU Soccer program in the last three campaigns as Georgia natives Carlie Banks and Mo Isom were recognized during the 2009 season. Banks was picked as a recipient on Sept. 29 and Isom followed with a selection on Nov. 10 of the 2009 season.
