Wolf Begins Play in ITA All-American Qualifying

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – LSU senior Whitney Wolf, the No. 52 ranked player in the initial 2011 Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, begins qualifying play at the ITA/Riviera All-American Qualifying Round on Tuesday.

She takes on Florida’s Joanna Mather, who is ranked No. 26 nationally.

Wolf has amassed 50 wins in her LSU career. Sixteen of those came a year ago, including six victories against ranked opponents.

She will team up with junior Kaitlin Burns in ITA/Riviera All-American doubles qualifying as they take on Brooke Bolender and Emina Bektas of Michigan, the No. 17 ranked doubles team in the nation.

Wolf and Burns won five matches as a doubles team last year. All of their wins came on court one with two coming against ranked opponents.

“The great thing about fall tournaments is you get a lot of opportunities to face talented competition,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We’re taking on some top players, but it’s a chance to hopefully make a run in a great tournament.”

Doubles play begins at 11 a.m. CDT and singles play gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
