BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team honored the accomplishments of the 2011 team at the annual team banquet Friday in the LSU Faculty Club.
Head coach D-D Breaux, assistant coaches Bob Moore and Philip Ogletree and volunteer assistant coach Ashleigh Clare-Kearney honored gymnasts for their SEC academic and athletic accolades as well as national academic and athletic achievements.
Sophomore Kaleigh Dickson received the DeeDee Fulmer Gilbert Award, presented annually to the gymnast who consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to academic and athletic excellence.
The staff presented the Most Improved Award to junior Shelby Prunty for her consistency throughout the 2011 season as she led off the bars, beam and floor lineups by the end of the year.
Dickson received a certificate and plaque for achieving All-Around All-America honors at the 2011 NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio.
The coaches honored Sarie Morrison for earning Freshman All-SEC and Second-Team All-SEC recognition after she posted a 9.90 on vault at the SEC Championship in Birmingham.
Casey Duvall, Lainie Fleming, Janelle Garcia and Ashley Lee were honored for earning Scholastic All-America accolades.
Dickson, Duvall, Fleming, Garcia, Lee, Prunty, Samantha Engle, Mckenzie Fox and Sidney Sanabria-Robles received SEC Academic Honor Roll awards as well.
The team resumes fall practice Monday as they gear up for the first intrasquad event on Oct. 14.
