BATON ROUGE – After placing in the top two of their first couple of competitions this season, including a win for the women in the LSU Invitational a week ago, the LSU men’s and women’s cross country teams travel to Lake Charles, La., for the McNeese Cowboys Stampede at the Enos Derbonne Sports Complex on Saturday.
Five Lady Tigers finished inside the top 10 at LSU’s only home meet of the season last week en route to the team victory.
They were led by junior Leigh-Ann Naccari‘s third-place finish of 22 minutes, 53 seconds over 6,000 meters. It was Naccari’s second straight top-10 performance. Junior Charlene Lipsey finished next for LSU just behind Naccari in fourth place, stopping the clock at 22:05.9.
Brea Goodman ran a time of 22:29.7 to finish sixth, Andria Aguilar finished in 23:32.0 to come in seventh and Dakota Goodman was ninth across the line in 23:34.7.
The men placed second last week for the second time this season with three Tigers finishing in the top ten.
Senior Richard Chautin led the way with a time of 27.29.1 covering 8k. Senior Cullen Doody finished ninth with a time of 27:52.4 after winning the Bulldog Invitational at Mississippi State the week before. Junior Roger Cook rounded out the top 10 coming across the line in 28:03.7.
“This race is another step in getting into the best shape we can for the conference meet, which is a big goal,” LSU head coach Mark Elliott said. “The distances on this course are shorter than what we have run the past two weeks so that should be an advantage. “
The women start the day off at 8:45 a.m. CDT covering 5k followed by the men who will run 4 miles at 9:15 a.m.
