BATON ROUGE – After winning the individual title at the first meet of the 2011 cross country season, LSU Senior Cullen Doody looks to continue his success as he leads the Tigers into the LSU Invitational, the team’s only home meet of the season at Highland Road Park in Baton Rouge Saturday.
The women start the day off at 8:05 a.m. CDT covering 6,000 meters followed by the men who will run 8k at 9:15 a.m.
Both the men’s and women’s teams finished second at the Bulldog Invitational on the Mississippi State campus a week ago.
Senior Cullen Doody was first across the finish line in Starkville, Miss., clocking in at 25 minutes 23.42 seconds.
He was followed by teammates Richard Chautin and Roger Cooke, who rounded out the top ten with times of 25:52.45 and 25:56.53 respectively.
The women will be led by Junior Leigh-Ann Naccari who was the Lady Tigers top finisher last week with a seventh place finish of 18:56.28.
Juniors Dakota and Brea Goodman finished next for LSU in Starkville with times of 19:28.50 and 19:39.64 respectively.
“It’s always great to run your home course in competition,” said LSU head coach Mark Elliott. “We know this course really well so hopefully that gives us a bit of advantage. Cross Country’s one of those sports where you need your entire team to do well so I’d like to see all-around improvement Saturday.”
Alcorn State, Dillard, Houston Baptist, Louisiana Tech, Miami (OH), Mississippi College, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Southern University New Orleans, University of Louisiana-Lafayette and Xavier-Louisiana will all compete with LSU this weekend.
