BATON ROUGE – For the fourth time in his illustrious career on the PGA Tour, Tiger great David Toms will represent the United States in international competition at the Presidents Cup as a member of the U.S. Team that will compete Nov. 14-20 at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia.

The 44-year-old Toms is set to make his first Presidents Cup appearance four years as he has also enjoyed the privilege of representing the United States in the event in 2003, 2005 and 2007.

This actually marks Toms’ eighth career appearance in international competition for the United States that also includes three Ryder Cup appearances in 2002, 2004 and 2006 and one appearance at the World Golf Championships in the annual event during the 2002 season.

“I’m just excited about it,” Toms said. “I’ve been to Australia a couple of times. Golf is really good there. The fans are great, and I just look forward to being a part of a team with a good mix of players and quite a few guys that I haven’t been on a team with before. It should be a lot of fun.”

Toms, who finished in eighth place in the final standings for Presidents Cup qualifying, is set to join 10 of his fellow PGA Tour stars as part of Team USA. Toms will team with Matt Kuchar, Steve Striker, Dustin Johnson, Webb Simpson, Nick Watney, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan and Jim Furyk for the Presidents Cup. Tiger Woods will also compete as an at-large pick by team captain Fred Couples.

Toms earned a spot on the U.S. Presidents Cup Team on the strength of his tie for 10th place last weekend at the BMW Championship for his seventh top-10 finish of the 2011 season.

The Shreveport native has enjoyed a successful PGA Tour season in 2011, highlighted by the 13th victory of his career at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial on May 22 after earning a runner-up finish at the Players Championship at the TPC Sawgrass on May 15. Toms has taken home just shy of $3.7 million for the season to rank No. 8 on the PGA Tour’s official money list for the 2011 season.

Most recently, Toms was among the top 30 players to qualify for the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola to be held this weekend at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Toms has enjoyed tremendous success in his experience at the Presidents Cup while compiling a record of 6-7-1 in three appearances. Toms proved to be the top American performer in his last appearance for 2007 as he posted a 4-0-1 record to lead Team USA to the Presidents Cup title.

“This was a team I wanted to make,” Toms said. “I’d been grinding pretty hard all year to try to make this (Presidents Cup) team. At this stage of my career, to still be able to make one of these teams, to play well enough and be a part of it, it’s a pretty special thing for me really. I am going there with a mindset that we are going there to win and play great and have a good time.”
