BATON ROUGE – The LSU softball team released its 2011 fall schedule Wednesday highlighted by an Oct. 11 tilt versus the National Pro Fastpitch [NPF] All-Star team as announced by head coach Beth Torina. Admission is free to all eight fall games at Tiger Park.
“Our players are working very hard to improve their individual skills as we get the fall season started,” Torina said. “We’re excited to see how the players perform not only individually but collectively as a team during game situations which are difficult to simulate through practice.”
LSU opens the fall campaign with a doubleheader versus Northwestern State [Oct. 7 at 5 p.m.]. Four days later, the Tigers welcome the NPF All-Stars [Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.] as part of the league’s college tour.
The Tigers play host to McNeese State, Nicholls State and Chipola CC for the LSU Fall Collegiate Classics [Oct. 15-16] before concluding the fall slate with single games versus LSU-Eunice [Oct. 19 at 5 p.m.], the 2011 NJCAA Division II National Champions, along with Louisiana-Monroe [Oct. 21 at 5:30 p.m.].
“The NPF game will be a wonderful experience for our players to get to compete against the best players in the world,” Torina said. “There’s no doubt that this entire fall schedule will be measuring stick to show us what we’ll need to improve on heading into the spring season.”
LSU returns 17 players from its 2011 roster sparked by NFCA All-American Third-Team and All-SEC First-Team selection Brittany Mack along with All-SEC Freshman Team pick Simone Heyward. The Tigers notched a 40-18 record and made its 13th NCAA Regional appearance last season.
