COSTA MESA, Calif. — The LSU Men’s Tennis team saw a little bit of everything today as they opened their fall season at the Costa Mesa Futures Qualifier Tournament in California.
Senior Mark Bowtell began the day for the Tigers with a walkover victory against Justin Jenkins.
Next up for the Tigers was freshman standout Chris Simpson who was defeated 6-1, 6-4, by recent International Tennis graduate Evan Song.
Senior captain Neal Skupski rounded out the day with 7-5, 7-6 victory over Frenchman Mathieu Forget.
“We had a good first day,” said assistant coach Danny Bryan. “Neal (Skupski) played well and Simpson (Chris) played hard, but knows he can do better. We know there are a lot of improvements that need to be made, but we are off to a good start.”
The tournament will continue tomorrow. The order of play has not yet been announced.
