BATON ROUGE — LSU women’s tennis seniors Whitney Wolf and Olivia Howlett began the fall 2011 season with singles victories at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas.
Wolf, the No. 1 seed and 52nd ranked player in the nation, cruised into the third round with a straight sets victory. Howlett prevailed after a marathon third set winning 16-14 in a super tiebreaker.
“I was particularly impressed with Whitney’s play today against a tough opponent from TCU,” LSU assistant coach Lisa Jackson said. “I am looking forward to seeing how the girls respond tomorrow after a long day.”
LSU had mixed results in Minnesota as freshman Rebecca Bodine notched the only win for the Lady Tigers Friday at the Gopher Invitational on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
The Lady Tigers take the court again Saturday in both Texas and Minnesota.
Play resumes at the Gopher Invitational at 10:30 a.m. when singles play gets under way with doubles play beginning at noon.
The schedule of Saturday’s play at the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational is not yet available.
