BATON ROUGE — For the first time since 1971, the LSU football team will play twice in primetime on ABC, the network announced via an @CollegeGamday Tweet on Saturday evening. After opening the season in front a network television audience in the Cowboys Classic, the Tigers will travel to face West Virginia for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff in Morgantown, W.Va.
On Sunday morning, the Worldwide Leader in Sports confirmed that ESPN College GameDay would make its first trip to Morgantown for the weekend’s premier matchup. It will be the second time this season (vs. Oregon on Sept. 3) that LSU has been featured on GameDay and the 16th time in school history.
The Tigers will be making their first trip to the Mountain State in school history in the second half of a home-and-home series that began in 2010. LSU won the inaugural meeting in Tiger Stadium, 20-14.
LSU was ranked No. 3 prior to defeating No. 25 Mississippi State on Thursday night in Starkville, 19-6. No. 18 West Virginia held off Maryland, 37-31 on Saturday.
This week’s polls will be released Sunday approximately noon CT.
For most games, SEC football kickoff times and television networks are announced each Monday, 12 days ahead of the game. However, the game against West Virginia — a part of the Big East conference’s television package — was put on a six-day hold by ESPN.
