Eades Named Cape Cod League Pitcher of the Year

Three Pitchers Name Baseball America Prospects

BATON ROUGE — Three LSU pitchers were named Friday to the Baseball America magazine Top Prospect lists for the collegiate summer leagues.

LSU sophomore right-handers Kevin Gausman, Ryan Eades and Nick Rumbelow were recognized on the lists. Gausman was rated the No. 4 prospect on the USA Collegiate National Team, Eades was the No. 9 prospect in the Cape Cod League and Rumbelow was the No. 6 prospect in the Prospect League.

Baseball America ranked the top 30 prospects for the Cape Cod League, the top 20 prospects in the Northwoods League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues, plus a top five in the fledgling Futures League. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

Gausman made two starts for the USA Collegiate National Team during its summer tour, allowing two runs in 8.2 innings with three walks and nine strikeouts.

Eades was named the Cape Cod Pitcher of the Year as he posted a 3-0 mark and a 0.84 ERA in 32.1 innings. He struck out 23, walked seven and allowed just 19 hits, and he was the starting pitcher for the West squad in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game.

Rumbelow fired 60 strikeouts in 51 innings in the Prospect League, including a 14-strikeout effort on June 22.

The Southeastern Conference, which has produced college baseball’s last three national champions, dominated the Top Prospect lists. The SEC leads all conferences with 24 players on the lists, followed by the Pacific-12 (22 players), the Big 12 (18 players) and the Atlantic Coast (17).
