BATON ROUGE – The LSU soccer team will wrap up its five-game road swing to open the 2011 season on Tuesday night as it makes a return trip to Houston, Texas, to square off with the University of Houston in a match slated to kick off at 7 p.m. CDT at Houston’s Robertson Stadium.
The Tigers (1-3) are looking to get back into the win column after suffering a pair of 1-0 defeats last week that includes a double overtime setback to Rice in a match played on Friday night in Houston.
The Tigers are unbeaten in two previous fixtures against the Cougars (0-4) while posting a 1-0-1 mark for the all-time series. The sides last met during the 2007 season at Robertson Stadium while battling to a 0-0 draw. LSU was dominant in a 6-1 win in in Baton Rouge in the inaugural meeting in 2006.

Houston has run the gauntlet early in the season after opening the 2011 campaign with a 3-0 home shutout to Texas on Aug. 22 before dropping a pair of road matches against Duke (2-0) and North Carolina (6-1) on the second weekend of the season. The Cougars enter Tuesday’s match after suffering its latest setback with a 1-0 defeat against North Texas at home at Robertson Stadium on Sunday.
After taking on the Cougars on Tuesday night, the Tigers return to Baton Rouge this weekend for a highly anticipated home opener on Friday night as it unveils the new LSU Soccer Stadium in a match against the unbeaten Oregon Ducks that is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. CDT.
Friday’s match against unbeaten Oregon comes just six days after the No. 4-ranked Tigers beat the No. 3-ranked Ducks by a score of 40-27 on Saturday night at the Cowboys Classic during the opening weekend of the 2011 college football season. The Oregon soccer team owns a 4-0-1 mark to start the season.
Fans will now have the opportunity to “Geaux Free!” to each of the team’s nine home matches this fall as admission is now free at the LSU Soccer Stadium, compliments of The Advocate.
