BATON ROUGE – Les Miles met with members of the media today following LSU’s practice. The following is a transcript of Miles’ comments regarding the indefinite suspension of quarterback Jordan Jefferson and linebacker Josh Johns.
“Concerning the recent developments, like I said earlier today, both Josh Johns and Jordan Jefferson have been suspended until further information is brought to light. That suspension is indefinite. It certainly is a tough time for our team. They see a teammate in peril.
“I went to practice today and I think there was some real emotion on that field. We had a great practice. They really put it behind them, and they focused for the two hours of practice. I was proud of them today because they were sick. They played hard.”
On Jordan Jefferson . . .
“I told Jordan Jefferson to protect himself fully, to participate in the legal system and to stand his ground. I certainly respect the process our law enforcement agencies go through to make these determinations. We want to make sure that when he returns we have a clearer view of the incident and he can focus on football. I look forward to knowing more about this incident period. I’m sure Jordan and his family will stand tall and participate in their defense.”
On Jarrett Lee . . .
“Jarrett Lee is our starter. Since the issue we’ve moved in a way that would allow Jarrett to spend a lot of time on the field. Really the decision was made more fully today. Jarrett just had a heck of a practice. He’s really working to do the things he needs to do to make this team go.”
On the team in practice today …
“I think we all understand our marching orders. Our team understands that there’s not much they can do specifically to help either Josh or Jordan. It’s more about preparing to play.”
On the possibility of suspended players practicing with the team…
“That determination has not been made. Certainly they won’t practice this week.”
