SHENZHEN, China – For the first time in the three rounds of the World University Games, the final nine holes gave LSU senior Tessa Teachman trouble as she fired a 4-over 76 in the third round Friday at the Mission Hills Golf Club.

Teachman, after an even par 36 on the front nine, posted a 4-over 40 on the back side to stand at 9-over 225 and a tie for 19th place in the field of 75 entering Saturday’s final round of the 72-hole event.

The top American in the individual competition is Caroline Powers who fired a second straight 1-under 71 and is at 4-over 220 and tie for 11th place.

The American team moved up to fourth place with their best team score of the three-days in the play three-count two scoring system as Powers and Catherine O’Donnell combined for a 1-over 145 and a three-day total of 8-over 440. The team is two shots out of medal contention with China in third at 438 and Spain in second at 434. Taiwan remains the runaway team leader at 420, 12-under, after 54 holes.

In fact, the Taiwan pair of Tzuchi Lin and Hsuanyu Yao are tied for the individual lead at 6-under par.
