SHENZHEN, China – LSU senior golfer Tessa Teachman improved in the second round of the World University Games individual competition Thursday at the Mission Hills Golf Club with a 1-over par round of 73.
That gives her a two-day total of 5-over par 149 (76-73), putting her in a tie for 16th place in the field of 75 competitors and 11 shots out of the lead of Taiwan’s Hsuanyu Yao who is at 6-under 138 (68-70). Three players are tied for the silver medal position at 4-under 140.
Teachman got off to a strong start, with a birdie on the first hole and turned in 1-over 37 and then played the back nine at even-par for the day.
The USA team is in a tie for fifth place at 7-over 295 in the play three, count two scoring system of the WUG. Caroline Powers posted a 1-under 71 and Brooke Beeler had a 4-over 76 for their second-round total of 147.
The USA is tied with Korea, 17 shots behind Taiwan at 10-under 278 after shooting identical 5-under 139s. The USA is only four shots out of the silver medal held at the halfway point of this 72-hole event by Spain at 291. China at 292 is in the bronze medal position.
The third round is scheduled for Friday with the tournament to conclude on Saturday.
