BATON ROUGE — LSU signee Alex Bettridge wrapped up competition at the AT&T National Diving Championships hosted by UCLA in Los Angeles, Calif., Aug. 9-14.
The Austin, Texas, native Bettridge participated in the 1-meter, 3-meter and 3-meter synchronized dive. In the two events that will translate into collegiate competition, she finished 18th in the 3-meter dive and 31st in the 1-meter dive. She also placed 15th in the synchronized 3-meter event.
The high level of competition bodes well for Bettridge’s career at LSU. The incoming freshman will look to use her national experience on the collegiate stage.
Bettridge excelled at Lake Travis high school and finished third, fourth, fourth and second from freshman to senior year respectively at the Texas State Diving Championships.
The National Championships awarded ten national titles. The meet served as a chance to qualify for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials (the top six teams in the synchronized events and the top 12 finishers in the individual 3-meter and 10-meter qualified).
In addition, the nationals were used to select the U.S. roster for the upcoming Pan American Games.
