BATON ROUGE – LSU middle blocker Desiree Elliott was chosen to COBRA Magazine’s All-National Preseason Third Team. The squads spotlight the top African-American collegiate players going into the 2011 season.
During the last two seasons, the publication has named Brittnee Cooper its 2009 National Player of the Year and Brittney Johnson as the 2010 National Setter of the Year.
Elliott, a 2010 All-SEC First-Team pick and SEC Freshman of the Year recipient, powered home 266 kills at a 2.49 kills per set ratio and connected for over a .300 hitting percentage on 20 occasions. She also paced the Tigers with 109 blocks, while her 1.02 stuffs per frame were 10th in the SEC.
The magazine also released 12 featured matches within the first 30 days of the season which included two players from its preseason national teams. LSU’s final match of the Tiger Classic against Miami on Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. is one of the highlighted match-ups.
Fans are encouraged to take advantage of the Geaux Free program for all matches this season compliments of The Advocate. The Tigers have compiled a 62-10 mark at home dating back to the 2005 season.
