Canadian Trio Among Top Soccer Prospects

BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Canadian trio of two-time All-SEC performer Allysha Chapman and All-SEC hopefuls Taryne Boudreau and Natalie Martineau continue to receive their share of preseason recognition in 2011 as each has been named among the Top 100 prospects for the 2012 Women’s Professional Soccer Draft announced this past weekend by the writers of AllWhiteKit.com.

Chapman, a native of Courtice, Ontario, is the No. 45-ranked pro prospect in the NCAA for the 2012 draft class after establishing herself as one of the country’s top defensive talents in her two seasons at LSU.

While competing as both a starting left back and defensive midfielder for the Tigers, Chapman received a Second-Team All-SEC selection in 2009 and First-Team All-SEC selection in 2010 as one of the league’s top defensive performers. She is also a two-time all-region selection for the Tigers.

The scouting report at AllWhiteKit.com states that Chapman is a “Canadian U20 that will probably be at defensive midfielder in 2011 for her senior season, but realistically, with her size, her future is probably at left back, where she performed so ably as a junior in 2010.”

The Tigers are also blessed with a pair of talented attacking midfielders to facilitate the offense this fall as Martineau is ranked No. 77 and Boudreau is ranked No. 89 by AllWhiteKit.com in its list of top prospects for the 2012 WPS Draft. Martineau is the team’s top returning goal scorer from a season ago when adding five goals in her first season at LSU. Boudreau is set to return to the midfield in 2011 following a year for which she led one of the SEC’s elite defenses as a starting center back.

A native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Boudreau has been a stalwart for the Tigers since joining the team in 2007. Martineau, who hails from Oakville, Ontario, is also sure to lead the squad in an SEC championship race this fall after joining the program for the first time a year ago.
