BATON ROUGE – With its 2011 soccer season opener against the Memphis Tigers now just over two weeks away, LSU head coach Brian Lee put the Tigers through their first two-a-day of preseason training camp Wednesday with two training sessions at 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.

The Tigers will battle the four-time defending Conference USA Tournament champions from Memphis in an Aug. 19 clash at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CDT.

The Tigers kicked off their morning practice with a conditioning test at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium that featured a one-mile time trial before moving to the LSU Soccer Complex for the 90-minute technical-based training session that also featured individual defending and small group possession.

In their evening session, the Tigers focused on speed of play, while gradually moving into a full 11-on-11 scrimmage to simulate live game action as they prepare for the start of the season.

“We always use our first day of camp as a way to assess where we are mentally and physically as we start our preseason training,” Lee said. “We expect that our student-athletes will come to camp fit and certainly ready to compete. That’s exactly what we saw today. I was also very pleased with that effort and intensity shown today in training. That will be a key for us as we prepare for what will be an exciting season.”
