Track Assistant Gibson Accepts Position at Oklahoma

BATON ROUGE – Marvin Gibson, the assistant men’s sprints and hurdles coach with the LSU track and field program for the past six seasons, has accepted a position as an assistant coach for the sprints, hurdles and relays at the University of Oklahoma as announced Monday morning.

While serving as one of LSU’s lead recruiters throughout his tenure in Baton Rouge, Gibson joined a staff under head coach Dennis Shaver for the first time in 2005 as a volunteer assistant coach.

“It has been my pleasure and a great learning experience to have worked as an assistant coach with the LSU track and field program for the last seven seasons,” Gibson said. “However, with much gratitude for my opportunity here, I’ve been presented with a wonderful career opportunity at the University of Oklahoma. As an alumnus of this great university, I wish LSU Track & Field and the LSU athletic family the very best in the future.”

Shaver will now work to fill the vacant position on his coaching staff left with Gibson’s departure as both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are poised to join the national championship chase again in 2012.

“Over the past seven years, Marvin has been a tremendous asset to the LSU program. We wish him all the best in his new position,” Shaver said. “I will now open up the search for a replacement to assist our staff in recruiting and implementing the LSU sprints and hurdles program.”
