BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU pitcher Nick Rumbelow fired 14 strikeouts Wednesday for the Danville (Ill.) Dans in a Prospect League game against the Hannibal (Mo.) Cavemen.
The Prospect League is a wooden-bat summer collegiate league with teams in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Tennessee.
Rumbelow, a right-hander from Bullard, Texas, limited Hannibal to two earned runs on six hits with no walks, but the Cavemen managed to post a 3-2 win over the Dans.
Rumbelow, who will be a sophomore at LSU in the fall, has made three starts this summer, posting a 1.37 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 19.2 innings.
Rumbelow was 2-0 with a 4.85 ERA in 13 relief innings for LSU in 2011, recording 16 strikeouts and limiting opponents to a .229 batting average.
