BATON ROUGE – LSU All-America golfer Megan McChrystal takes the next step after her record-breaking collegiate career when she plays her first professional round of golf Friday on the LPGA Futures Tour.
McChrystal will tee off Friday afternoon in the 54-hole Island Resort Championship presented by Delta County Chamber of Commerce in Harris, Mich., at the Sweetgrass Golf Club. The tournament runs through Sunday.
McChrystal will be one of three former LSU players in the field joining Melissa Eaton-Jackson from South Africa and Shreveport’s Meredith Duncan, a former U.S. Women’s Amateur Champion.
McChrystal finished her senior season as a first team All-American by the NGCA and Golfweek Magazine, helping the Lady Tigers to their best ever finish in the NCAA Championships, taking third eight shots behind winner UCLA. McChrystal was just the third LSU golfer in the program’s 32-years to appear in four NCAA Championships, three with her team, and finished with a school record single-season stroke average of 72.4 and a career school stroke average record of 73.2 for 123 rounds.
The Stuart, Fla., native posted five individual tournament victories, including two this past season. Only two other LSU Lady Tigers won more tournaments in their careers in program history.
