Ernst, McChrystal Take Home All-America Honors

McChrystal, Ernst Named Golfweek All-Americans

BATON ROUGE – LSU senior Megan McChrystal and freshman Austin Ernst added All-American honors from Golfweek Magazine to the multiple honors they have already received this season.

McChrystal was named to the first-team All-America team, while Ernst was named second-team All-America, along with freshman All-American. Both had previously been named first-team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association in ceremonies following the conclusion of the women’s NCAA National Championship last month.

McChrystal, who is preparing to start her professional career on the LPGA Futures Tour, set season and career records at LSU for stroke average while winning two tournaments her senior season. Included in that was the fifth and final win of her career when she was co-medalist at the NCAA Central Regional, helping the Lady Tigers to a second place finish and a spot in the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship.

McChrystal finished her career by becoming just the third LSU golfer in the 32-year history of the program to advance to four NCAA Division I National Championship tournaments.

Ernst, the NCAA Division I individual champion, was second on the team in stroke average and also captured two titles on the season. She won the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., to open the spring season and then concluded with the NCAA championship, firing a second 66 in the event’s final round.

In that round, Ernst had a hole-in-one on the second hole and then rolled in a 60-foot birdie on the third hole to take the lead, finishing with a three-shot lead to become the first freshman since 1998 to win the individual championship.
