NCAA Champ Ernst to be in ‘SI’ Faces in the Crowd

BATON ROUGE – LSU freshman women’s golfer Austin Ernst is part of Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” segment in the June 6 issue of the magazine, hitting newsstands this weekend.

Ernst became the first freshman since 1998 to win the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship on May 21 at The Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. Ernst, who became the first LSU woman and just the third LSU golfer (man or woman) to win the individual national championship, twice shot rounds of 6-under 66. The Seneca, S.C., native won the 72-hole event by three shots and helped the LSU team to their best ever women’s finish in the event, third place.

Ernst posted a four-day total of 7-under 281, a school record for 72 holes. Her final round 66 included a hole-in-one at the par 3 second hole and then a 60-foot birdie putt on the third hole to propel her into the individual lead for good.
