The Tigers began the second half of their six games in Italy on Tuesday night, winning to go 4-0 on the trip. Here’s the recap from Northern Italy:
Day 7: Tuesday, May 24, 2011
The LSU men’s basketball team resumed action Tuesday versus Elmec Varese at 7:00pm.
After jumping out to a quick lead in the first quarter, Elmec Varese was able to battle back and cut the lead to ten, 47-37, going into halftime. The Tigers gained control of the game after making a 12-2 run to start the second half. Coach Trent Johnson continued to look at different floor combinations, using all eleven Tigers, as LSU came away with an 87-62 victory.
Following the game Coach Johnson said, “We had a chance to practice Monday to clean up some things and we executed despite a few lapses in the second quarter. We had contributions from everyone. Eddie (Ludwig) continues to shoot the ball well as he adjusts from the 4 [power forward] to the 3 [small forward]. Malcolm (White), Storm (Warren), and Justin (Hamilton) had a presence in the paint tonight on both ends of the floor.”
The team arrived in the city of Gazzada, a suburb of the city Varese, Monday afternoon. The hotel they are staying in for the remainder of their trip provides a marvelous view of Varese Lake, a few towns, and mountainous countryside. The northern part of Italy provides a different perspective to the urban and historic nature of Rome.
LSU plays both Wednesday and Thursday night before returning on Friday, May 27.
