BATON ROUGE – LSU junior distance runner Laura Carleton was recently named part of the prestigious Class of 2011 “Tiger Twelve.”
Each spring, the Office of the Dean of Students recognizes 12 outstanding seniors who have maintained a GPA of at least 2.5 and have best demonstrated the seven basic principles outlined in LSU’s Commitment to Community.
These individuals contribute positively to the life of the campus and surrounding community and hold themselves to the highest standards of academic, personal and social integrity. In addition, as members of the LSU community, the 12 students practice justice, equality and compassion in human relations and respect the dignity of all persons.
Carleton, a member of the cross country and track and field teams, will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in management after only three years at LSU. The Lake Charles native plans to begin the LSU Flores MBA program in the fall while continuing to compete for both teams.
The 167 students nominated by LSU faculty and staff were required to submit a paper demonstrating why they felt they should be selected as part of the illustrious group.
“I am able to help my teammates maintain their integrity by being a leader within my event group at practice and always encouraging other event groups on the team by being supportive of their challenges and recognizing their achievements,” she stated in her paper.
This year’s honorees were recognized on April 30 at a ceremony held at the Lod Cook Alumni Center.
