BATON ROUGE – As she wraps up one of the most prolific prep careers both on the track and in the classroom at St. Louis’ McCluer North High School, Lady Tiger track recruit Kendra White was honored this week by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch as the school’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2010-11.
While earning a reputation as one of the country’s top prospects in the 400-meter dash on the track, White has also excelled in the classroom throughout her prep career as she currently ranks No. 7 in a senior class of 434 students at McCluer North High School as she nears graduation this spring.
White plans to major in chemistry while competing at LSU, and aspires to “help create medicines that are affordable for those with critical medical conditions such as heart disease and breast cancer.”
White is a two-time national champion while competing with the St. Louis Lightning Track Club after she won a pair of gold medals in the 400-meter dash and 4×400-meter relay at the USATF Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships during her junior season in 2010. She actually set her lifetime personal best of 53.72 seconds in winning the 400-meter title during the competition.
White took home a total of four medals during the USATF Youth Outdoor Championships last summer as she also won the silver medal in the 4×100-meter relay and bronze medal in the 200-meter dash. White set her 200-meter personal best of 24.43 in the meet’s final race.
White eyes her first career Missouri Class 4A state championship in the 400-meter dash this year as she is set to wrap up her prep career at McCluer North High School after taking third place a season ago.
