BATON ROUGE – Members of the LSU baseball and softball teams participated this week in the ceremony marking the opening of the Miracle League at Cypress Mounds.

The Miracle League is a non-competitive offering for children with physical or mental disabilities. Games are played on a specialized field that provides a safe and fun program in which children can hit, run and catch.

Baseball coach Paul Mainieri, softball coach Yvette Girouard and their players attended the ceremony and played a game on the field with the children. Former LSU coach and athletic director Skip Bertman served as master of ceremonies.

“It was a phenomenal experience for everyone,” Mainieri said. “To see the excitement in the eyes of the children is something we’ll never forget. This is a wonderful facility that will bring joy to young people and their families for decades.”

“The experience was unbelievable,” said LSU softball pitcher Brittany Mack.  “At first, it made me sad seeing the children in wheelchairs or with some other disability. But, none of them were worried  and every single child had the biggest smile on their faces. I loved being there so much that I’ll be at several of their games over the summer.”
