BATON ROUGE – The LSU softball team will be the first female sports program to be spotlighted on the ESPNU’s All-Access show. The 30-minute piece airs to a national audience Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. CT.
“We were extremely honored to have ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports, spend a day with our program,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “This is another prime example of how much our game has grown during my career. We’re excited for our fans and the nation to get an inside look at the day-to-day operations of Tiger softball.”
Girouard opens the show by giving an inclusive tour of the state-of-the-art Tiger Park facility, including a glance inside the team locker room. Girouard along with associate coach James DeFeo and assistant coach Kristen Hobbs Cain have the cameras rolling during their daily morning staff meeting.
Junior pitcher Brittany Mack shows the cameras around campus for stops at Mike the Tiger’s cage, a team weights session led by Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coordinator Melissa Moore and a glimpse inside the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes.
The piece continues with a training room visit guided by Associate Athletics Trainer Ana Gross before all three coaches are miked up during the team’s afternoon practice session.
“It was a once in a lifetime experience and a privilege to show the ESPN cameras around our gorgeous campus,” Mack said. “We’re very excited to be not only the first softball team, but the first female sports program to be featured. It speaks volumes about our team.”
LSU wraps up the non-conference portion of its schedule with a Tuesday tilt at Southeastern Louisiana. First pitch is on-tap for 6 p.m. at North Oak Park and live stats are available at www.LSUsports.net/livestats.
