BATON ROUGE – ULL’s Gabrielle Bridges and LSU’s Brittany Mack came away with Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week accolades Tuesday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A senior outfielder for the Cajuns, Bridges registered hits and RBIs during all six of ULL’s games last week. She compiled a .533 batting average to go along with four home runs and nine RBIs. With two dingers against New Mexico, Bridges notched her fifth multi homer performance of the season. Her 59 career long balls are third most all-time in ULL program history.
A junior pitcher for the Tigers, Mack garnered a pair of complete game victories over No. 24 Kentucky during her two starts over the weekend. The wins halted LSU’s season-long seven-game losing streak. In the series finale, Mack retired 12 of the final 13 batters she faced and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning. For the season, Mack has posted a 7-3 record.
It’s the third weekly award for Mack and second for Bridges from the LSWA.
