Men’s Tennis to Face Nebraska for the First Time

BATON ROUGE – The LSU men’s tennis team will face its final non-conference opponent of the season when the Tigers host No. 36 Nebraska on Tuesday at 3 p.m. CDT in W. T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.

The Tigers (6-9, 2-3 SEC) are 5-2 at home this season, including wins over No. 16 Michigan, No. 29 Ole Miss and No. 41 Rice, while the Cornhuskers (12-4) are 4-2 on the road.

The match against LSU is the second of a five-match road swing for Nebraska, which began on Saturday with a 7-0 sweep against William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss.

“This is a big match against a top-level team,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “They have some big wins this year and we’ll need to play at the same intensity we’ve been playing at in SEC matches.”

The Cornhuskers notched a 5-2 win over 24th-ranked Vanderbilt on Jan. 28, and have road victories over Wisconsin, UNLV and Denver under their belt.

Nebraska is led by 81st-ranked Christopher Aumueller, who is 8-6 this season playing primarily on Courts 1 and 2. Sebastian Florczyk anchors the bottom of their lineup with an impressive 12-1 mark this dual season, posting an 8-1 record on Court 6 and 2-0 on both Courts 4 and 5.

In doubles, Aumueller teams up with Benedikt Lindheim to make the No. 65 duo in the nation, as the pair is 6-0 at the top doubles spot.

The 12th-ranked Tiger tandem of Neal Skupski and Sebastian Carlsson are 11-3 on Court 1, and 8-2 in their last 10 matches to guide LSU. Skuspki is also ranked No. 91 in the singles poll.

The match will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
