Notes on the Tigers
The LSU-Florida series last weekend in Alex Box Stadium drew an actual attendance figure of 28,215 (an average of 9,638 per game), establishing a stadium record for a three-game set … the paid attendance figure for the series of 34,562 (11,521 average) also set a stadium mark … true freshman catcher Ty Ross led the Tigers at the plate in four games last week, batting .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles, three runs and one RBI … Ross hit .455 (5-for-11) in the Tigers’ series vs. Florida with two doubles and one RBI … junior centerfield Mikie Mahtook hit .455 (5-for-11) in the Florida series with one double, one RBI and two runs … freshmen right-handers Kurt McCune and Kevin Gausman each delivered outstanding starting pitching efforts against the top-ranked Gators last weekend … McCune worked seven innings on Friday, limiting the Gators to one earned run on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts … Gausman pitching eight innings on Saturday, allowing just one run on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts … another freshman right-hander, Joe Broussard, turned in a brilliant relief effort in the Tigers’ win over Nicholls State on Wednesday … Broussard entered the game in the first inning and pitched six frames, limiting the Colonels to one run on five hits with one walk and seven strikeouts … Broussard’s effort allowed the Tigers to erase a 6-0 first-inning deficit and post a 12-8 victory … the win at Nicholls State represented the biggest comeback for the Tigers since May 7, 2010 in Alex Box Stadium when LSU trailed Vanderbilt 11-4 entering the bottom of the fourth inning and rebounded to post a 16-15 victory.
