BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – LSU senior guard Katherine Graham has been named to the 2011 Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Community Service Team for her efforts around the city of Baton Rouge, the league office has announced.

Graham was one of 12 players named to the list. Every school in the conference had a player named to the squad. Graham, a native of Birmingham, Ala., has been a leader both on and off the floor for the Lady Tigers the past two seasons.

In the summer of 2010, she participated in the Baton Rouge Recreational Department’s Sports Academy that taught children fundamentals of the game. Since the spring of 2009, she has been a vital member of the Lady Tigers’ “Grades, Perseverance and Achievement” program that honors education in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Graham and the Lady Tigers have been heavily involved in the program’s partnership with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Baton Rouge affiliate. In the fall, she visited Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital in Baton Rouge, greeting patients, signing autographs and handing out basketballs.

“I have never been a part of an experience so special,” Graham said of that experience. “Having the opportunity to make a child’s day is a great experience that I will cherish forever.”

Graham has started all 32 games for the Lady Tigers this season, averaging 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. The senior just recently went over 700 points and 500 rebounds for her career during last week’s SEC Tournament. Graham needs five assists to reach 300 for her career.
