BATON ROUGE – Fans have the opportunity to watch the Lady Tigers take home their 23rd SEC team championship on Thursday night as ESPNU is scheduled to air its tape-delay nationwide broadcast of the 2011 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships beginning at 8 p.m. CT.
The LSU women earned a dominating victory over the homestanding Arkansas Razorback in Fayetteville at the Randal Tyson Track Center by a margin of 135-117 in the final team standings.
Four Lady Tigers took home SEC Indoor event championships during the meet held Feb. 25-27, including senior All-American Brittani Carter (high jump), sophomore All-American Kimberlyn Duncan (200 meters), freshman Jen Clayton (long jump) and freshman Jasmin Stowers (60 hurdles).
In addition, junior sprinter Semoy Hackett was the team’s top individual scorer with 16 points as she won a pair of All-SEC honors with second-place finishes in both the 60 meters and 200 meters.
The Tigers earned a third-place finish in the final men’s standings during the SEC Indoor Championships, led by another SEC championship winning performance by senior star Walter Henning. A native of Kings Park, N.Y., Henning is now a five-time SEC champion during his brilliant career with three-straight titles in the weight throw indoors and two-straight titles in the hammer throw indoors.
While Henning was the lone Tiger to take home an SEC event title, junior Horatio Williams was the LSU top point scorer on the men’s side with a total of 12 points in individual events. Williams finished in third place in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash during the championship to lead the men’s team.
