BATON ROUGE – ULL’s Christi Orgeron and LSU’s Brittany Mack were selected Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week accolades Tuesday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A junior outfielder for the Cajuns, Orgeron belted a solo home run in ULL’s 1-0 victory over No. 3 Alabama. She has hit safely in all 20 games this season and posted a RBI in 17 of those outings. The New Orleans native knocked a pair of dingers en route to five RBIs versus Temple and capped her weekend with a two-run blast to finish off a 4-0 win over Long Island.
A junior pitcher for the Tigers, Mack sat down 20 consecutive batters to start off a dominant two-hit shutout against Hofstra, a 2010 NCAA Tournament participant. The Round Rock, Texas, product garnered 11 strikeouts against zero walks and fired a career-best nine innings. She earned the run during head coach Yvette Girouard‘s 500th victory at LSU.
It’s the second weekly award for both Orgeron and Mack from the LSWA.
