Track & Field Ranked No. 2 Entering NCAA Indoors

BATON ROUGE – Following the release of entries into the NCAA Indoor Championships on Monday night, the LSU track and field teams have maintained their No. 2 rankings in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 power ranking published Tuesday.

The 2011 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled to run this weekend from the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas, on Friday and Saturday.

This marks the fourth-straight week in which the Tigers and Lady Tigers have swept the No. 2 position on both the men’s and women’s Top 25 power ranking. The Tigers climbed to as high as No. 1 in the NCAA on Jan. 25 and have never fallen past the No. 2 spot in the men’s ranking, while the Lady Tigers are No. 2 for the fourth-straight week after spending the first four weeks of the season at No. 3 in the country.

The defending NCAA Indoor champion Florida Gators continue to hold down the No.1  spot in the men’s Top 25 power ranking, while No. 3 Arkansas, No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 5 BYU round out the top five.

Likewise, the defending NCAA Indoor champion Oregon Ducks have been ranked No. 1 for the women’s power ranking all season long. Following LSU in the top five of the final women’s power poll of the 2011 campaign are No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Arkansas and No. 5 Texas A&M.

With 28 combined entries into this year’s NCAA Indoor Championship, LSU will be represented by more athletes in the meet than any other program in the country. The Tigers will compete this weekend with the most men’s entries with 15, while the Lady Tigers boast the second-most women’s entries with 13.

Arkansas boasts the second-most combined entries into this year’s meet with 21, while Oregon will travel this weekend with the third-most combined entries into the meet with 20.
