Tennis to Complete Road Swing at South Carolina

BATON ROUGE – After falling to No. 11 Florida on Friday to open SEC play, the LSU men’s tennis team looks to get back on track this Sunday in Columbia, S.C., against South Carolina at Noon CST at Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center.

The Tigers (3-6, 0-1 SEC) have lost four-straight matches, and the matchup with the Gamecocks (5-5, 1-0 SEC) is the final test of a tough five-match road swing. South Carolina has won four-straight home matches, including a 4-3 win over No. 69 Arkansas to open SEC play on Friday.

“We are looking for a complete match,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “The guys are fired up and we are ready for a great conference match against South Carolina, who had a big win over Arkansas yesterday.”

The 17th-ranked doubles duo of senior Sebastian Carlsson and junior Neal Skupski have won seven of their last eight doubles matches, and lead the Tigers in the rankings. Skupski is also ranked 69th in the nation in the singles poll.

The Gamecocks’ Alexander Kostanov and Chip Cox are a combined 11-5 in singles matches, with Cox riding a three-match winning streak. South Carolina doesn’t have a ranked player in either poll.

LSU holds a 24-7 advantage over South Carolina all-time, including a 5-2 win in Baton Rouge last season.
