Track & Field Featured on ESPNU ‘SEC Weekly’

BATON ROUGE – The No. 2-ranked LSU men’s and women’s track and field teams have been featured prominently as part of this week’s episode of “SEC Weekly” on ESPNU as All-American jumpers Zedric Thomas and Damar Forbes are profiled along with the Lady Tigers, who took home their 23rd SEC crown all-time with a win at the SEC Indoor Championships.

The Lady Tigers were crowned Southeastern Conference champions for the 23rd time following their 135-118 victory over the homestanding Arkansas Razorbacks at the SEC Indoor Championships held this past weekend in Fayetteville, Ark. It also marked their league-leading 12th SEC Indoor crown all-time.

This week’s episode of “SEC Weekly” also featured LSU’s dynamic jumps duo of Thomas and Forbes, as they are preparing to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships to be held next weekend.

The profile talks about how they have pushed one another as two of the NCAA’s leading jumpers through their collegiate careers. Thomas, a senior from New Iberia, La., currently ranks No. 3 in the long jump at 26-6 ¼ and No. 7 in the triple jump at 53-3 ½ in the NCAA this season. Forbes follows closely behind his teammate with the NCAA’s No. 5-ranked performance in the long jump at 26-3.

In fact, Forbes matched his lifetime personal best of 26-3 to earn his first career All-SEC accolade with an impressive second-place finish in the long jump this past weekend at the SEC Indoor Championships.

Fans will also have the opportunity to watch the Lady Tigers take home this year’s SEC Indoor crown, as well as each of LSU’s athletes in action this past weekend, with ESPNU scheduled to televise coverage of the 2011 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday, March 10, beginning at 8 p.m. CT.
