National Champion Jackson to be Honored Friday

BATON ROUGE – LSU gymnastics will recognize three-time individual national champion Susan Jackson Friday at the meet against New Hampshire.

The meet will begin at 7 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, and tickets are still available at www.LSUtix.net or by calling 225-578-2184.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early as Jackson will be honored during the pre-meet introductions, and the banner featuring her name as an NCAA national champion will be lowered prior to the meet.

After the meet Jackson will join the gymnastics team in an autograph session in the arena.

In her senior season in 2010 Jackson became the first LSU gymnast to win the prestigious Honda Sports Award for gymnastics. She received the AAI Award as the nation’s most outstanding senior gymnast, also a first in LSU history.

Last season she captured the first NCAA all-around national title in LSU history and also won the NCAA balance beam title.  She finished her career with three individual national titles and earned four First Team All-America honors in 2010 to finish with 12 All-America honors in her career.

She broke the school record for all-around titles in a season with 11 in 2010 and also set the school record for consecutive all-around titles to open a season by winning the first six.

She was named the 2010 SEC and Central Region Gymnast of the Year, while also achieving the third First Team All-SEC honor of her career. She finished as a three-time SEC champion and earned SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition in 2009 and 2010.

Last season Jackson became the second LSU female to win the Roy F. Kramer SEC Female Athletes of the Year as she joined former women’s basketball legend Seimone Augustus, who won the award in 2006.
