Notes on the Tigers
No. 20 LSU won three of its five games last week and check in with a 12-5 record after passing the quarter pole for the 2011 season. Its two setbacks came to Pac-10 powers No. 3 Arizona and No. 14 California. The Tigers accomplished a program first during a 6-2 comeback victory over Fordham as Anissa Young, Tammy Wray and Ashley Langoni connected for back-to-back-to-back home runs during the sixth inning off Jen Mineau, a 2010 NFCA First-Team All-American honoree. LSU entered the frame down 2-1 and the rally was sparked by Young’s three-run dinger to left centerfield. For Young, she equaled a program single-game mark with two long balls in a game. Wray delivered eight RBIs over the week to bring her season total to 15. She trails Young by only two RBIs for the team lead. Simone Heyward returned to the top of the LSU lineup after missing a five-game stretch due to injury and has reached base in 12 consecutive games to start her career. In the circle, LSU’s trio of Rachele Fico, Brittany Mack and Meghan Patterson have posted four wins apiece. The Tiger hurlers will look to bounce back from a 3.91 staff ERA over the week.
