BATON ROUGE – The LSU soccer team returns to the state of Texas on Saturday afternoon as it continues its 2011 spring season against the SMU Mustangs of Conference USA in an anticipated fixture scheduled to kick off at noon CT at Westcott Field in Dallas.
The Tigers are looking to bounce back from a narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of Big 12 Conference power and 2010 NCAA Elite Eight qualifier Oklahoma State in Houston on Feb. 19.
“We look forward to the challenge of competing against another quality opponent on the road as our team continues to grow and mature during the spring season,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “With our young team having the opportunity to compete in the spring against power programs like Oklahoma State, SMU, Texas and Florida State, it will certainly help prepare us for a much improved 2011 fall season.”
SMU wrapped up the 2010 fall season with an 11-7-4 overall record and a 6-4-1 mark in Conference USA play en route to a berth into the semifinal round of the Conference USA Tournament as the No. 4 seed.
After battling the SMU Mustangs on Saturday afternoon, the Tigers will return to action March 18 as they compete against some of the program’s former stars in this year’s LSU Soccer Alumni Game to be held indoors at the brand new Premier Soccer Center in St. Gabriel. The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m.
