BATON ROUGE – The No. 20 LSU softball team continues to take fans behind the scenes with “Blogging from the Berm” at different points during the 2011 season.

Junior Morgan Russell shared some thoughts as LSU returns to the road over the weekend at the Cathedral City Classic. The Tigers have contests slated against Pac-10 powers No. 3 Arizona and No. 14 California along with Fordham and Cal Poly.

Fans can follow the team’s social media pages at www.Facebook.com/lsusoftball and on Twitter at twitter.com/LSU_Softball.

Hey Tiger Fans!

Just dropping in to tell all of you just how excited I am for our trip to California! Last weekend’s games in Houston were certainly disappointing. However, our team can only grow from those losses, and I have all of the faith in the world in my teammates and the coaching staff. I know that we’ll continue to get better as the season progresses.

Now, moving on from the past and looking forward to our first plane trip. I wanted to share a few details about the mini-adventure this team goes through each time we fly together. Our team is…well…very unique to say the least. We tend to have fun wherever we travel, whether by bus or plane.

Airport trips are always interesting. Can you imagine traveling with a party of 28? We ALWAYS have at least one hissy fit over an aisle seat versus a window seat. We’ve even rolled ground balls to each other in the terminal while our flight has been delayed.

Something interesting always seems to happen. Of course, we all stress about losing our ID’s or forgetting a uniform. Thankfully, the coaches remind us 274,091 times to check our packing list before we depart. I can’t wait to touch down in sunny California.

Playing in California is a true privilege for our team. We get to play against elite competition in this tournament. It’s very important for our program to showcase itself in front of west coast recruits. It’s also an extremely special occasion for our west coast players as they rarely get to play in front of their extended family and friends from home. I know words can’t describe how special it is for those players.

It’s truly inspiring to have Tiger fans supporting us wherever we go as a team. I’m honored to be a part of such a special program that allows us to travel to places such as Palm Springs and test our abilities against tough opponents.

I appreciate and thank you for all of your support.

Geaux Tigers!
