BATON ROUGE – ULL’s Taryn Broussard and LSU’s Meghan Patterson garnered Louisiana Sports Writers Association [LSWA] Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday as voted upon by the state’s sports information directors.
A sophomore infielder for the Cajuns, Broussard became the second player in program history to connect for three home runs in a game, the first being Gabriele Bridges a week ago. Her three long balls came during a 19-0 triumph over Tennessee State. The Lake Jackson, Texas, native is on a 12-game hitting streak dating back to the 2010 season.
A freshman pitcher for the Tigers, Patterson fired her first career no-hitter against Southern during LSU’s opening game at the Houston Hilton Plaza Classic. She also tossed another complete game and added nine Ks against Nicholls State. The Destrehan native became the first LSU pitcher since Dani Hofer during the 2006 season to win her first four decisions.
It’s the second weekly award for Patterson and first for Broussard from the LSWA.
