BATON ROUGE – LSU gymnast Sarie Morrison picked up her first Southeastern Conference honor as she was named SEC Freshman of the Week by the league office Tuesday.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Morrison captured her third straight all-around title with a career-high 39.575 all-around score against fourth-ranked Georgia.
Morrison’s score is the fourth-highest all-around total in the nation, and it is the highest all-around score by an LSU freshman since April Burkholder’s school-record 39.875 on March 21, 2003.
Morrison set career highs on vault with a 9.925, beam with a 9.875 and floor with a 9.90 against the Gym Dogs, and Morrison collected event titles on vault and bars as well as the all-around.
Morrison leads the team with 10 individual titles this season with four on bars, three on vault and three in the all-around. She also ranks 20th in the newest all-around rankings with a regional qualifying score of 38.960.
The 20th-ranked LSU gymnastics team travels to Lexington, Ky., Friday to take on Kentucky at 6 p.m. CT in Memorial Coliseum.
