Nominee for Player of the Week
Anissa Young, 1B, Jr., Fontana, Calif.

Young was a key component in the middle of the LSU lineup and connected for a .438 batting average to go along with a home run and six RBIs. She notched hits in five of six games and earned a spot on the Wilson/DeMarini Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team. Her two-run homer during the third inning of a 5-3 win over Purdue proved to be the game-winning hit.

Nominee for Pitcher of the Week
Meghan Patterson, P, Fr., Destrehan, La.
 
Patterson burst onto the scene and went 2-0 with a paltry 0.54 ERA en route to a spot on the Wilson DeMarini Tiger Classic All-Tournament Team. For the weekend, Patterson mowed down 25 batters in her 13 innings of work. She tossed a four-hit shutout and racked up 11 strikeouts against zero walks during her first career start against Bowling Green. The Destrehan native followed that up with another complete game 11 K performance versus Louisiana Tech. She is one of only three pitchers in program history to record two double-digit strikeouts efforts during her first two starts.

Nominee for Freshman of the Week
Simone Heyward, CF, Fr., Sacramento, Calif.

Heyward served as the catalyst at the top of the LSU lineup and notched Wilson/DeMarini Tiger Classic Tournament MVP honors. She tallied hits in five of six games for a .412 batting average, crossed the plate 11 times and totaled six stolen bases. The Sacramento, Calif., product scored multiple runs on a quartet of occasions, including four against Louisiana Tech in the season opener.

Notes on the Tigers
No. 19 LSU swept through opening weekend with six impressive victories and outscored its opponents 41-8 at the Wilson/DeMarini Tiger Classic. The Tigers placed Simone Heyward, Ashley Langoni, Meghan Patterson, Juliana Santos and Anissa Young on the All-Tournament Team with Heyward securing the MVP honors. For the weekend, the Tiger offense clicked for a .368 team batting average and racked up 22 stolen bases. The junior trio of Langoni, Santos and Young combined for 18 of the squad’s 38 RBIs at the plate. Heyward scored 11 runs and swiped six steals from the leadoff spot. Patterson along with Rachele Fico and Brittany Mack each secured a pair of wins from the pitching circle. The staff recorded 59 strikeouts in 39 innings of work and limited opponents to a .162 batting average for the weekend. LSU wraps up its seven-game homestand Wednesday against Southeastern Louisiana before traveling to the Lone Star state for tilts with tournament host Houston along with Nicholls State, Oklahoma State and Southern.
